I was lucky enough to be on the receiving end of a rather special gift yesterday - my very own Terrarium. If you are screwing your nose up in confusion right now - its okay most people do when I tell them - terrariums are a fabulous mini world of your very own .. read this:
"A terrarium, also called a vivarium or a glass garden, is a clear container filled with plants. Often the top of the terrarium is closed. Inside the terrarium, water from the soil rises into the air as it evaporates into a gas called water vapor. When this water vapor hits the sides and top of the terrarium, it cools and turns back into droplets of water. This water then drips back down into the soil, and the whole cycle begins anew. Many terrarium plants get all the moisture they need from the water that circulates throughout the container again and again!"
Ive not had much luck with plant rearing thus far, which is why this is perfect for me, as it should just look after itself. All I need to do is keep it out of direct sunlight, and trim the plants a little.
There's a real art to creating these, its not a matter of scooping up a bunch of plants and throwing them in there, the mosses need to be selected, the soils got to be right - all little things that my talented friend from Pickled Whimsy has taken care of. Ill post a link up to her very soon - if you are interested in knowing more just drop us a line and we can put you in touch!
